Marcus Nasty is a true titan of the underground, a tastemaker supreme who works tirelessly to discover new sounds. How many DJs can lay claim to having pioneered and founded three distinct genres that each changed the face of British dance music? This East London-born selector first rose to fame as head of grime legends NASTY Crew, back when now legendary artists such as Ghetts, D Double E, Kano and Jammer were just young men starting out on their careers. Now the style he helped usher in is a worldwide phenomenon.
Marcus was one of the first to champion UK attempts to tap into the worldwide house music phenomenon way back in 2006 as a new style of fiercely British, UK garage, grime with dancehall & Afro House influenced beats culminating into what we now know as UK Funky. Nasty’s increasing prominence and reputation for adventurous musical choices swiftly led to his weekly primetime, Urban Music Award twice-nominated Rinse FM show that he still heads up to this day. He also now has residencies on Flex FM, SWU FM & Trickstar Radio and does regular guest shows on Kiss, 1xtra, Mode FM and Threads Radio to name a few!
Although Marcus is predominately known as a UK Funky DJ, his true passion lies in identifying, developing & mentoring new talent, specifically those involved in all the UK Underground genres – Grime, Dubstep, Funky, DnB, UKG, Bassline and anything in between. He utilises his two decades of industry experience, his radio show appearances & other resources at his fingertips to be a true champion of UK music and its talent.
As a natural progression of this, he has launched his own record label – Tribes of Mars – which will showcase the UK’s best underground music talent.
Marcus’ most recent venture The Nasty Bros is a collective of established industry veterans specialising in UK funky, garage, grime, Dubstep and DnB scenes.
With excellent on-stage chemistry and the ability to both draw a crowd and drive them into a frenzy, The Nasty Bros are making a big splash on the scene and are in high demand!
